I love meeting students from all over the world and learning about their different cultures, while at the same time showing them how so many experiences are universal. I also enjoy sharing my experience as a host parent and former teacher to help the families that I support have a great experience with their students. Working for a non-profit organization, especially one that serves children and promotes connection and world peace, is aligned with my fundamental values. As a former ESL teacher and a daughter of social workers, I really can’t see myself working in any other setting.
Promoting peace and connection through international exchange is a way to positively affect the future. What feels like a late-night talk over cookies, or a trip to a museum, or simple words of encouragement in the present can have a positive ripple affect on a young person’s way of thinking. That young person carries their positive exchange experience with them, and it hopefully affects how they interact with the world around them.
