Zinaida from Azerbaijan did a nonprofit tour with her host family to learn about the ins and outs of nonprofit work and learn how young people like herself can get involved in important local missions. Zinaida chose to meet with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Social Ministry Community.
“During my visit to Sacred Heart of Jesus Social Ministry Community, I learned a lot about how this nonprofit works to support the community. The organization helps people in need, especially seniors aged 60+, by providing food, basic necessities, and other important services. I met staff members and many volunteers who were all dedicated to serving others with kindness and respect.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the visit was the sense of unity and teamwork. Everyone worked together with a positive attitude, and most of the people helping were volunteers. I liked seeing how they packed food with passion, care, and genuine kindness. The environment felt warm, organized, and full of purpose.
I also learned that this charity distributes food every week, which means families and seniors facing difficulties don’t have to go to bed hungry. It showed me how consistent support can make a big difference in people’s lives.
Comparing this to my home country, Azerbaijan, I noticed some similarities. People in Azerbaijan also like to help others, and charity is an important part of the culture. I think my home country could benefit from more well-organized nonprofits like this that run regular programs and reach large numbers of people each week.
I would definitely volunteer or work at a place like this in the future. In fact, during this visit, my host family and I volunteered for 4 hours and 30 minutes, and it was a very special experience. I enjoyed helping people and talking with them.
I believe helping others through nonprofit work is important because it creates hope, brings communities together, and makes people feel supported and valued. When people receive help, they feel happier and more secure, and it creates a positive environment for everyone.”
