Work With BFF

As a community advisor, you play an active role in the lives of young people from all corners of the globe, and the effect you have on their lives ripples out into the world in ways we never fully appreciate. Community advisors are an integral part of our students’ program.

What is a Community Advisor?

Borderless Friends Forever is a non-profit organization seeking a responsible, motivated, and enthusiastic individual to identify host families and oversee  international high school exchange students in the United States. The community advisor will supervise the students throughout their exchange experience and play an active role in their lives. BFF seeks a responsive individual interested in international relations with strong interpersonal communication skills. Aside from the supervision requirements, BFF requires our community advisors to recruit and provide mediation as needed to families and students.

There are many qualities that make a great community advisor. To decide if you think this will be a good fit for you, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you looking for a part-time, flexible position?
  • Do you believe that teens are impressionable?
  • Would you like to make a positive impact on teens both locally and globally?
  • Can you see the value in teens from around the world understanding American culture and vice versa?
  • Do you have experience working with children? Teens?
  • Are you a friendly, confident communicator?
  • Are you organized and thorough?

Lisa Blauser: Growing Her Family One Student At A Time

But while being a Community Advisor is technically a job, I get so much out of it.  The students I work with have become my extended family.  I tell everyone I am their “Aunt” because of the close relationship I develop with the students. I now have new friends worldwide and it is such a delight to wake up on Christmas morning to messages waiting for me from my former students, getting calls telling me they were accepted to the University they hoped to attend, and being tagged in Facebook posts of “meme’s” for inside jokes we share…

Community Advisor Story: Amy Wilch

I love teenagers! Being a Community Advisor combines my favorite things: teens, travel, and cultures. I get to be a part of our students’ dream to live an American life, learn all about their country & culture, and help them navigate the school year to make their...

Community Advisor Story: Amy Jones

I love meeting students from all over the world and learning about their different cultures, while at the same time showing them how so many experiences are universal. I also enjoy sharing my experience as a host parent and former teacher to help the families that I...
